The tour group for Sunday the 13th was pretty interesting — of the ten people who showed up ready to walk, slightly more than half seemed to be from Australia, plus we got a guy from Spain, in the burg for an academic conference (he’s promised to send in a Guest Post on a Hammett connection with spaghetti westerns I hadn’t heard about).
And as we stood across from 891 Post, none other than Bill Arney happened along and did some Guest Commentary.
Bill, as you know if you’ve prowled this site much at all, is the one-time resident of Sam Spade’s apartment — his tenure for 16 years was the best, since he was often around and would allow tour groups to come up and gander the digs.
The man knows how to reside in a classic literary site.
More recently, and on top of his duties serving as the Voice of Noir for Noir City, Bill has tossed his hat into the ring at Cheese Theatre. As Season 3 readied to roll I sat in to do Guest Commentary on the films The Fat Man and the Ur zombie classic The Last Man on Earth.
Now, Bill tells me, “Season 3 is officially over, but before we kick off Season 4, I have three Halloween specials from earlier seasons coming on. The next two Saturdays will feature guest host John Stanley, interviewed in the space ship, for Cat Women of the Moon and Phantom Planet. John looks good in a space ship.
“On November 2, we will air The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, featuring guest host Mike Humbert — and Laurel Arney as the Voice of the Brain.”
Bill has a second thought on the schedule, though: “In retrospect, I should have picked Lady Frankenstein as one of the three. It was our very first show, and it has the added benefit of unedited nudity and sex that only a public access station will air.”
Yep, you want Cheese, you might as well go Full Cheese.
